In the second of our ‘handmade hotspot’ series, we catch up with the lovely Anna who makes the gorgeous felt hair accessories that arrived at Kitty & Polly a few weeks back. The hair accessories are truly handmade, right down to every petal being cut and sewn by hand.
Aspiring designer/makers take note…!

When did you first start making accessories ?
I only started my company about two months ago, but I’ve been sewing and making accessories for as long as I can remember! I kept getting asked to make things for friends, so I thought I’d try it out as a business.
How would you describe the style of your accessories ?
The range is based on exploiting the textural and sculptural qualities of felt, and its fabulous depth of colour. My designs explore a contemporary take on ‘floral’ that is luxurious, without being heavy or overblown.
What inspires you when creating a new accessory ?
Colour is my main inspiration – seeing how different combinations work and the effect of putting one colour next to another. My colour combinations are inspired by everything from fashion to art to nature…
What do you enjoy most about designing/making accessories ?
I love the process of making something by hand and seeing it emerge through that process.
Which other designers do you admire the most ?
There are some great undiscovered new talents on websites like Etsy, and I’m particularly interested in how people are keeping crafts going in this way, as small independent designers.
Any tips/advice for aspiring designer/makers out there ?
Focus on what you really love doing and just get your stuff out there!
What things have you got planned for the future ?
I have lots of designs in my head, just waiting to be made! I also love making bespoke pieces for people, so I’d really like to do more of that.
